 Abstract:  Alexander Bourne was a surveyor who produced the landmark 1815 map of Ohio. The collection consists of a plat of a meridian line from the Mouth of Eagle Creek to the Little Miami River, plat of a meridian line from the mouth of Brush Creek to the Indian boundary line, surveyed by Bourne in 1813, and a survey of Ohio's Brush Creek.

2Title:  Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad Company Journal     
 Creator:  Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad Company

 Abstract:  The Marietta and Cincinnati Railroad Company formed in 1851 by the merger of the Belpre and Cincinnati Railroad and the Franklin and Ohio River Railroad. Its route was surveyed by a crew under the direction of resident engineer C.T. Arms. The collection consists of a bound volume containing daily reports of the party which surveyed the railroad's route. Includes monthly payroll statements listing names, occupations and wages of crew members.

 Abstract:  The collection consists of notes, surveys, and maps of land in Ashtabula, Batavia, Braceville, Brecksville, Chardon, Coitsville, Concord, Ellsworth, Fowler, Guilford, Howland, Leffingwell, Liberty, Liverpool, Monroe, Newbury, Newton, Parkman, Ravenna, Richfield, Southington, and York, Ohio. Most of these surveys of land located in the Western Reserve were made by Wolcott for General Simon Perkins.

 Abstract:  Ira Wright was an Ohio surveyor who worked for Abraham Tappan. The collection consists of six booklets of notes taken while surveying land adjacent to the Portage Path between the Cuyahoga and Tuscarawas rivers. The booklets are signed and dated by Abraham Tappan.

7Title:  Richard Howe Survey Book

 Abstract:  Richard Howe (1799-1872) was an engineer for the Ohio & Erie Canal, 1824-1850. The collection consists of a survey book which records a survey of May 24, 1829, of the northern part of the Ohio and Erie Canal (the 39 miles from Cleveland to Summit Lake in Akron). It contains bearings, distances between stations, mile markers, and notes. A note dated July, 1833 states that iron in the locks may cause errors in measurements.

 Abstract:  Abraham Tappan (1779-1855) was a surveyor and postmaster of Unionville, Ohio, during the nineteenth century. The collection includes correspondence relating to land transactions, surveys and politics in the Western Reserve; and field notes made by Tappan while surveying Henry Champion's land in Concord Township, the road from the Muskingum River to Lake Erie, the road from the mouth of the Grand River to Warren, Ohio, and areas west of the Cuyahoga River and north of the Tuscarawas River.

11Title:  Virginia Military District in Ohio Papers

 Abstract:  Richard Clough Anderson (1750-1826) was the Surveyor-General of the Virginia Military District, an area located between the Scioto and Little Miami Rivers in Ohio. The District and other land in Kentucky was granted to Virginia by Congress in 1784 to settle its claims to the Northwest Territory and reward its veterans of the American Revolution. The collection consists of seven entry books, ca. 4400 to 4800 surveys, and an index to entries, referring to land in the Virginia Military District lying between the Scioto and Little Miami Rivers in Ohio, which was surveyed under the direction of Anderson, his son-in-law, Allen Latham, and his son, William Marshall Anderson. Includes personal papers of Dr. R.G. Lewis of Madiosonville, Ohio, and miscellaneous papers of Allen Latham.

 Abstract:  Nathaniel Massie (1763-1813) was a deputy surveyor of Ohio's Virginia Military District. The collection consists of correspondence, legal briefs, court dockets, appeals, land warrants, surveys, title transfers, and receipts, relating chiefly to Massie's activities as deputy surveyor. The post-1813 papers relate to the settlement of Massie's estate and to land transactions and legal affairs of Henry Massie, southern Ohio lawyer.
